Marcus Thuram caused market havoc in the summer when he canceled his move to Milan at the 11th hour to join direct rivals Inter. After leaving Borussia Monchengladbach as a free agent, he received an offer from Rossoneri but decided to team up with their neighbors instead.
Thuram made the starting lineup on Saturday as Inter dismantled Milan 5-1 in a one-sided Derby della Madonnina. The Frenchman’s super goal toward the end of the first half partly contributed to Nerazzurri’s thumping victory. It was his second consecutive scoring appearance in Serie A after drawing first blood in a 4-0 mauling of Fiorentina last time out.
He seems to be taking no prisoners en route to making a name for himself at Giuseppe Meazza. Playing alongside Inter captain Lautaro Martinez has massively helped the ex-Gladbach striker gel and hit the ground running from the onset. That’s at least according to Thuram himself, who spoke highly of the Argentine during the post-match interview.
“I knew that Inter are a great team, with great players,” he said, as relayed by FCInterNews. “That makes it easier to play. And that’s what we’re doing on the pitch. Lautaro is our captain. He’s a great player, one of the best strikers in the world. Playing with him makes everything easier.“
If Thuram’s early days at Meazza are anything to go by, Romelu Lukaku’s decision to quit Inter could be the best thing that has happened to the club this year.
