The 28-year-old India National Cricket Team left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav won the Player of the Tournament award for his incredible bowling performance in the Asia Cup 2023.
Kuldeep Yadav was sensational with the ball in the recently concluded continental tournament that India won by defeating Sri Lanka in the summit clash.
The Men In Blue showcased sheer dominance and defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final on Sunday, September 17, at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Losing the toss and bowling first, they bundled out the Lankan team for 50 after Mohammed Siraj ran through the batting line-up.
Also, Hardik Pandya picked three wickets and Jasprit Bumrah got one. Chasing the target, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan opened for India and completed the run-chase in 6.1 overs.
From last one and a half years, been working on my rhythm – Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav was awarded Player of the Tournament for picking 9 wickets in the Asia Cup 2023. He registered the bowling figures of 0/1, 4/43, 5/25, and 0/34 in four matches he bowled.
After winning the Player of the Tournament award, Kuldeep Yadav said that he has worked hard on his rhythm in the last one and a half years. He also credited Rohit Sharma for encouraging him to improve his bowling speed. Kuldeep Yadav elaborated:
“From last one and a half years, been working on my rhythm. Being more aggressive through the crease. Loving my bowling.
“In T20s also the length matters a lot. It’s about not thinking about wickets, just about the lengths. Have worked hard on that. Credit goes to Rohit bhai. He encouraged me to work on my speed. When fast bowlers give you a couple of wickets in powerplay, it becomes easy for spinners.”
India’s next assignment is a three-match ODI series against Australia, which will be played on September 22, 24 and 27. After the series, India will participate in the marquee ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at home.
