Journalist Brian Custer asked Jermell Charlo point blank about his twin brother Jermall Charlo’s struggles to bounce back to his best boxing version. According to reports, Jermall Charlo has been struggling with mental health issues for a long time and he’s been inactive due to these issues that remain unresolved. He is constantly seen training alongside his twin brother but hasn’t been able to announce his return to boxing activity because of these problems. Despite these issues and not fighting since 2021, Jermall remains the WBC Middleweight champion but passed on challenging Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez forhis fours 168 pound belts in that September 30 fight.
Instead, his brother took the fight and will fight Canelo when his brother declined the offer. Jermell appeared on Showtime’s ‘The Last Stand’ podcast with Custer and said: “Man, you know, truthfully, I really don’t know if he’ll [bounce back]. I really don’t know, like cuz I’m not in his household. I don’t talk to him every day. You know, we kinda get into it like every other year, every year sometime. You know, we just never really seen eye to eye on certain things. But, you know, I wish my brother the best. I hope he bounce back. He got a family to feed, got a lotta children he gotta take care of and he got bills to pay and a life to live. So, you know, I don’t want it to be, when it’s all said and done, everybody coming in the family to ask me for some bread. They need to be goin’ to ask ‘Mall. You know?”
Jermell is focused on his upcoming fight against Canelo
When Jermell Charlo was asked abotu his brother, it was evident he felt slightly uncomfortable with the line of questioning. Instead, he prefers to focus on his upcoming fight against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and not worry about anything else. After all, this is already considered a mega fight between two champions who hold multiple belts in their respective divisions. They agreed to meet at 168 pounds and the entire world is hoping Canelo Alvarez can finally get that challenging fight he has been clamoring for.
